„Meridien“, a magazine published by the EU reflected article on ALPE foundation’s gender initiative. Under the EC funded project „Fostering Civil Integration“ and in cooperation with the Ombud’s office ALPE created Civil Lobby for Gender Issues. |

With ALPE intitation and Ombuds office active involvment, under the EC supported project „Education for Tolerance“ (DDH/2006/117-657) the Memorandum on coordination of activities on Gender isues was signed by more then 15 active gender organisations and individual experts. The undersigned organisations took an obligation to coordinat their efforts and work jointly on ellaboaration of reccomendations on improvement of gender situation in the country. |

On May 12-15, 2008, center “Bazaleti Lake” hosted seminar/training for school teachers “Education for Tolerance” F
Partners of the training were UN Asociation, Ministry of Education and Science, Tolerance Centre of the Public Defender’s office and Federation Save the Children with its Chidren’s Tolerance Education Programme.
The work of the training was attended by Adviser of the President of Georgia on Integration issues Tamar Kintsurashvili, OSCE experts who work for the Minsitry of Education on Bilangual studies, also, UN association Director Ramaz Aftsiauri and head of Tolerance Centre within Public Defender;‘s Office.

EU Project “Education for Tolerance” continues its work
On March12, experts from ALPE Foundation, the Public Defender’s Office and the Georgian Public Broadcaster met local teachers and Board of Trustees members in the Resource Centre in Akhalkhalaki.
Tolerance as a civic education subject in public schools was discussed. The teachers and BoT members highlighted problems with civic education textbooks, particularly in Russian and Armenian language schools.
A similar meeting took place in Kvemo Kartli, where teachers and BoT members stressed the need to expand programmes dealing with ethnic issues.
Participants at both meetings said that planning was required if the increased demand to learn the state language were to be met.

On 7-8 April ALPE and Civic Integration Foundations held a conference at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The conference was specifically for non-Georgian language journalists, and had many from Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe Javakheti in attendance.
As Minister Gia Nodia and Deputy Minister Ana Jvania underlined, the role of regional media is fundamental to on-going educational reforms.
ALPE used the occasion to put the local journalists in attendance into contact with the Information Department of the Georgian Public Broadcaster. Radio and TV features were created as a result. The journalists also wrote newspaper articles aimed at giving the youth of Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe Javakheti more information on education opportunities.
