„Promoting Education for Tolerance (PET)“ -EC funded project continues to work towards its aim to support ethnic integration in Georgia

On May 12-15, 2008, center “Bazaleti Lake” hosted seminar/training for school teachers “Education for Tolerance” F

 

Partners of the training were UN Asociation, Ministry of Education and Science, Tolerance Centre of the Public Defender’s office and Federation Save the Children with its Chidren’s Tolerance Education Programme.

The work of the training was attended by Adviser of the President of Georgia on Integration issues Tamar Kintsurashvili, OSCE experts who work for the Minsitry of Education on Bilangual studies, also, UN association Director Ramaz Aftsiauri and head of Tolerance Centre within Public Defender;‘s Office.

 

Nearly 30 School teachers, Directors, local Education Resource Centre representatives from Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo-Kartli took part in the event.

 

„Learn and Teach Tolerance“ – this is the right way to put ahead the issue, when we speak about academic process of tolerance studies within the framework of the civil education in public schools, stated experts.

 

When discussing issues related to the tolerance, its forms and character, participants outlined nessesity of having separate humanitarian discipline in Public schools and adequate need in drafting/translation of the appropriate publications. This was stated as number one priority to improve situation with those studies.

 

Special interest was expressed towards part of the tarining „Tolerance Study in Schools“  - presentation given by Keti Sulava, member of the group working on the „Chidren’s Tolerance Education Programme“ (Federation „Save the Children“).
