Community Police

A modern police force must, first of all, focus on the public and their needs. The activities of the police should include the implemntation of community services and should base all their actions on the principles of responsibility and respect for human rights.

Lado Chanturia

Lado Chanturia Lado Chanturia's (chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia) book Judicial Reform: the Georgian experience has been published and printed by Bakur Sulakauri Publishing with the support of ALPE in Spring 2002.

Judicial Code of Ethics of Georgia

A Judicial Code of Ethics, which ALPE was actively involved in drafting, was adopted on 23 July 2001 by the Conference of Judges. With the help of Marika Tsiskadze, a Supreme Court judge, ALPE has produced a Commentary to the Code which elaborates the Articles and puts them in an international context of good practice.

The thorny path to the courts - made easier

We have published several leaflets that explain complex judicial terminology and procedures. They provide basic information for people who go to court and suggest solutions and background on the different types of law in a language that people can easily understand. The leaflets are drafted by ALPE in cooperation with legal experts and judges and are available at courts nationwide.

Judiciary of Georgia

«In October 2002 ALPE published a book «Judiciary of Georgia» designed in the Georgian and English languages that includes detailed and comprehensive review of the structure of Judicial Power in Georgia. The book is appended by the complete list of normative acts related to the Judiciary adopted by the Parliament of Georgia.»

Private Arbitration

«On 12th of April 2002 ALPE organised the international seminar «Private Arbitration – an Alternative way of Dispute Resolution.» The seminar was attended by the members of business community, lawyers and the representatives from international organisations. ALPE’s initiative was to promote the practice of private arbitration in Georgia and facilitate its development. ALPE in co-operation with foreign experts has published a guidebook on Georgian and international arbitration (in the Georgian and English languages) that was mainly distributed among business organisations.»

Court and Legal Reporting Handbook for Journalists

«In October 2002 ALPE in partnership with the International Centre of Journalism (ICFJ) published court and Legal Reporting Handbook for Journalists in Georgian and English. The book outlines the principal features of the Georgian legal system and offers its readers ideas on the methodology of making interesting stories out of court cases. This manual intends to assist journalists in Georgia to prepare accurate and interesting legal stories for the general public through which the Georgian society will have better understanding of the judicial system.»
